Our Practice

The McLoughlin Medical Group is an independent consultant-led practice founded by Dr Terence McLoughlin and Director Gemma McLoughlin, bringing together nationally recognised medicolegal expertise with private consultant care.

Led by a Senior NHS Consultant in Emergency Medicine holding multiple national leadership appointments, the practice provides independent expert medical opinion across civil, criminal and coronial proceedings, alongside private consultant consultations and diagnostics at The Sefton Suite.

Clinical & Academic Leadership

Dr Terence McLoughlin founded the Liverpool Emergency Department Research Unit Strategy (LEDRUS), the first Emergency Medicine-led academic research unit established within the Trust, integrating research directly into frontline emergency and acute care pathways.

He acts as Principal Investigator on multiple NIHR-funded and international multicentre studies across emergency medicine, traumatic brain injury, neurological injury and sepsis, with research focused on improving early recognition, prognostication and time-critical intervention in acute care.

He serves as Director of Advanced Life Support (ALS) for the Resuscitation Council UK and as a Director of PERT (Pre-Hospital Emergency Resuscitative Thoracotomy) for the Royal College of Surgeons of England, contributing to national education, resuscitation practice and procedural training standards within emergency and trauma care.

Sports & Concussion Expertise

Dr Terence McLoughlin has extensive experience in professional sport, concussion medicine and traumatic brain injury, with expertise spanning emergency medicine, neurological injury and sports-related head trauma.

He has worked with professional rugby organisations including Northampton Saints RFC, Sale Sharks RFC and Barbarians RUFC, and has provided medical cover at major international sporting events including the Rugby World Cup and Commonwealth Games.

His experience also extends to sports and entertainment medicine, having worked with major international organisations including WWE, alongside advisory work relating to concussion and neurological injury in professional sport.
